Rat's Head and Rabbit's Head

I am angry. I am angry that the partner of late fashion designer YSL said that he would return the bronze rat's head and rabbit's head, which were part of YSL's collection and are currently in auction, back to China only if China recognizes human rights and lets Dalai Lama go back to China. Does he even know the history behind those two bronze statues and why they are now in France???

The rat's head and rabbit's head were two bronze statues surrounding the Zodiac fountain in the Old Summer Palace in Beijing back in the 18th - 19th centuries. There were altogether 12 such statues, each for one of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. However, British and French troops burnt down the entire palace and looted its luxuries and relics, including all the 12 bronze statues, during the Second Opium War and had China sign the unequal Treaties of Tianjin and Beijing. Currently only 5 out of these 12 statues have been returned back to China, 5 were missing, and 2 (rat's head and rabbit's head) are in a French auction after the death of YSL. They are China's national treasures and were looted illegally by foreign forces. How could YSL's partner be so cheeky to even offer conditions on returning the two statues? They should be returned back to the nation of ownership unconditionally! Whether human rights should be recognized in China in another issue, and it's not up to YSL's partner to judge, because it is a subjective issue. As a Chinese myself, I am also not happy with the development of human rights of my own country and urge the Chinese government to recognize our citizens' human rights. But that have nothing to do with the fact that the rat's head and rabbit's head were stolen from China's Old Summer Palace 150 years ago! YSL's partner, please don't try to fool other people.
